Lakhi-Mrunal emerge BGC mixed-doubles champs

Top Odisha lady golfer Lakhi Swain and her daughter-in-law Mrunal Dongre emerged champions in the BGC Presidents Cup Mixed-doubles Golf Tournament, which was held at Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) Course here yesterday.

Husband-wife combination of Ajay and Laxmi Negi finished runners-up, while the third position was occupied by Dalbir Singh and Manisha. Traditionally, husband-wife member couples of BGC take part in this nine-hole tournament. However, in the absence of one of the two, the other can take a member his/her family as partner.

In case of Lakhi Swain, in the absence of her husband Ramesh Swain, she played with daughter-in-law Mrunal. According to the rules of the tournament, one member of the pair plays the shots, while the other does the putting in the green. This was the second title of the year for Lakhi, who won the first one at Tollygunge Club, Kolkata learlier in January.

Former BGC president D K Tripathy handed over the prizes in the presentation ceremony. Incumbent BCG president Tata Ranjan Patnaik and secretary Dulal Pany were present on the occasion.
